Austin water outage impacted by a single gear switch, report says.
On Feburary 17, this year Austin, TX lost ppower to a main water plant. A single “Gear Switch” seems to be at fault. Apaprently, no one knew how to operate it. Don’t let that happen at your facility. See my video: Manual Non-Electric Transfer
Watch the whole video. I had to put a lot of cautions in it due to potential liability, but I built it arond basic instruction. If you need help working up a training program for an old switch send me a e-mail: [email protected]. Training and testing is legally required in most cities.
Below is a picture of an old, molded case breaker type switch. It is powered by a gear motor. Inappropriately called a “Gear Switch”.
